Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Real Estate and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.13%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.79% or 9.05 points to trade at 333.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) added 2.49% or 19.50 points to end at 803.70 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 2.58% or 18.90 points to 751.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which fell 2.72% or 12.40 points to trade at 442.90 at the close. Mahindra&Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 2.55% or 19.40 points to end at 740.30 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was down 2.26% or 19.55 points to 845.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.52% to 146.20, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 2.18% to settle at 684.45 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 2.06% to close at 334.95.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.75% to 442.80 in late trade, Mahindra&Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.36% to settle at 742.30 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.92% to 1939.20 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 873 to 705 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1359 fell and 1124 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.63% to 18.1075.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.44% or 5.40 to $1245.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.23% or 1.18 to hit $54.13 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.12% or 1.31 to trade at $63.00 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.21% to 70.626, while EUR/INR rose 0.74% to 80.5730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 96.403.
