Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Utilities and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.08% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA), which rose 17.27% or 2.80 points to trade at 19.01 at the close. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 13.10% or 0.380 points to end at 3.280 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 6.74% or 0.130 points to 2.060 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cronos Group Inc (TO:CRON), which fell 9.65% or 2.7700 points to trade at 25.9300 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO:APHA) declined 9.03% or 1.270 points to end at 12.800 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TO:ELD) was down 5.67% or 0.31 points to 5.16.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 587 to 470 and 146 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.02% to 15.51 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.65% or 8.55 to $1310.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $53.98 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.63 to trade at $62.61 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.61% to 0.7571, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6662.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 96.143.
